Non-Surgical Treatment For Rotator Cuff Tears

Rotator cuff tears are common, especially as an athlete.  They are a leading cause of disability among adults and in 2008, around 2 million people went to see doctors in the United States because of rotator cuff problems.

For many rotator cuff tears, doctors immediately recommend surgery but Dr. Benjamin Bieber is able to treat many rotator cuff tears using non-surgical medicine.  By applying one of the following, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy or Stem Cell Therapy, his patients with rotator cuff tears were able to heal their injury without having to undergo surgery.

Rotator cuff tear surgery is an invasive and risky procedure.  There is a long recovery period and a potential for unforeseen consequences due to the invasiveness of the procedure.

Platelet Rich Plasma And Stem Cells

Both Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy and Stem Cell Therapy are non-surgical in nature applying the body’s own healing properties via a special injection technique.  Dr. Bieber uses ultrasound guidance to guide the needle into the exact location to administer the treatment’s materials.

Again, both materials, PRP and Stem Cells, are homeopathic in that they use the body’s own properties to heal the rotator cuff tear.  PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is derived from he platelets found in a patient’s blood.

During the treatment, blood is drawn and placed into a centrifuge system to separate the platelets from the other contents within the blood.  The platelets are then spun once more to create PRP.  PRP contains over 30 growth factors to heal damaged tissue and repair blood vessel damage.

Dr. Bieber takes stem cells from either the patient’s fat tissue or bone marrow.  Once derived, these stem cells are immediately injected into the shoulder.  Stem cells are neutral cells located throughout the body.  When the body is damaged through injury or everyday use, stem cells are signaled by the brain to transform into the type of tissue the body needs to heal itself.

When the stem cells are placed during your stem cell shoulder treatment, they transform into tissue that repairs the rotator cuff tear.

This treatment is great for those that want to avoid surgery.  If you have had a shoulder problem for a significant period of time, both PRP and Stem Cell Therapy offer the opportunity to accelerate the shoulder’s repair.  Dr. Bieber is having tremendous success with both of these non-surgical treatments and they are surely worth a try if you are in pain.
