After a long grueling winter followed a rainy spring, finally summer is just around the corner. With great weather it’s about time for everyone to enjoy some outdoor activities, mostly to get us in shape for beach season. One of my favorite activities, both indoor and outdoor, is definitely basketball especially with the playoffs going on! Unfortunately, our Brooklyn Nets aren’t doing so hot and the fact that Deron Williams has spent this postseason wheeling around on his gimpy ankles has not been helping us in the playoffs against the Miami Heat either.
If you’ve sustained a chronic sprain associated with your ankles and they have failed to heal over time, don’t fret because they can still be repairable, most often by suturing the torn tissue and the surround structures. But, why would you even let it get to this point? The best way to repair a chronically unstable ankle, is to prevent it from getting to the unstable stage and this is accomplished by making sure that the torn ligaments are stimulated to heal properly in the first place.
Platelet rich plasma therapy, or PRP Therapy, is one type of treatment that uses your own bodies components to accelerate the healing process. Growth factors contained within platelet rich plasma therapy play a critical role is tissue formation and healing. All that is required is simple blood draw, the blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the growth factors which is found in combination with the platelets. The treatment is then administered into the damaged area under ultrasound guidance and therefore heal the damaged tissue.
